Amazing Benefits of Ghee in Milk - Detailed information

Ghee in milk is one of the easiest and reliable ways to control various health-related problems in our life. Right from good skin to stomach issues, the super combo of ghee and milk works its magic on everything. Ghee is the most popular ayurvedic food when it comes to health benefits. My grandfather till date consumes a glass of warm milk with a teaspoon of desi cow ghee in it. At 90+ age, he is able to walk and travel as well. Because of the simplicity of its nature, many people in the current generation have underestimated the benefits of ghee and milk.

We got so many questions for our blog on "What are the benefits of drinking milk with ghee at night?" that we decided to answer all those questions here. Our readers had all sorts of queries like 'Is there protein in ghee?", "Can pregnant women consume this mixture?", "Is this mix really helpful for constipation?" and many more! We have tried to answer all the questions in this blog. If we have missed out on any, feel free to write to us in the comments.

Desi ghee in milk during pregnancy

Indian families are very particular about ghee when it comes to pregnancy. Ghee helps in digestion which is faced by most women at the time of pregnancy. Ghee also helps in strengthening bones. The essential fats required to stay energetic and fit are also gained from ghee. Apart from these, there are beliefs which say that ghee helps in normal and less painful delivery. Although there are no scientific studies to prove so.

Pregnant women are always advised to consume healthy and nutritious food. Having fruits and dry fruits in addition to pure desi cow milk is a very healthy evening snack.

Like any other fatty food, consumption of ghee in excess may cause problems like extreme weight gain. Anything in excess is bad for health. An appropriate amount of fats, correct nutrition and recommended exercise is the best combination for fit young mothers.

Ghee milk protein

Milk contains 2 types of protein - Casein and Whey. Higher the protein content in the milk, lower is the fat content. Hence, desi cow milk is the most recommended milk for consumption as it is rich in A2 protein but the fat content is 3.5 to 4.5%.

The same property of lower fat content makes desi cow ghee an expensive commodity. If you are consuming ghee made using the traditional ayurvedic process, it removes all the protein from the milk and what remains is pure fat. Because it is pure fat, there is negligible or even no protein present in it. But in this process, about 25 to 30 litres of milk is required to make one litre of ghee.

Milk allergy

Ghee and milk allergy

People who have an allergy of casein should avoid any items which contain milk proteins. This means that tea, coffee, milkshake or any other beverage or sweet made using pure dairy milk will cause allergy for lactose-intolerant people. On the other hand, ghee, which is made using pure cow milk doesn't really cause allergy. Ghee, if made using the traditional ayurvedic process, has almost no trace of protein left in it. Hence, desi ghee is considered safe for consumption for people with lactose intolerance as well.

Desi ghee in milk for constipation

Many people from the generation of our grandfather rely on ghee with milk combo for most of their stomach related issues. One such very common issue with people in our country is Constipation. Honestly, we never talk about this ailment because we are embarrassed to admit it. Constipation is actually caused due to insufficient fibre in diet along with inadequate water intake and exercise.

Taking 1 or 2 teaspoonfuls of ghee in a cup of hot milk at bedtime is an effective but gentle means of relieving constipation. This is especially good for Vata and Pitta constitutions, but it may be too Kapha-increasing for Kapha types to use regularly. - Source: NDTV

Clarified butter is an excellent source of saturated fat and calories, hence it can increase your body weight.  Although ghee is highly recommended for weight loss, ghee in milk actually helps in gaining weight. A glass of hot milk with ghee and 2 teaspoons of ashwagandha is very good for weight gain. You can even consume ghee with sugar for weight gain. Consume these mixtures twice a day for a month and feel the difference. Source: The Indian Spot
