Ingredients
- Oil - 2 tablespoon
- Organic Besan -1 small cup (You can take about 4-5 tablespoon or 150 to 200 gms)
- Mustard seeds - 1/4th teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/4th teaspoon
- Asafoetida - a pinch
- Curry leaves - 5-7 (optional)
- 1 large Onion - finely chopped
- 1 Green chilies - chopped
- 4-6 cloves of garlic - chopped
- Organic Tumeric - 1/4th teaspoon
- Cumin-Coconut powder - 2 teaspoons (optional)
- Water - 3-4 cups
- Salt - to taste
- Coriander - 2 tablespoon finely chopped (optional)
How to make Authentic Maharashtrian Pithla?
Step 1 - Prepare the Besan
- In a big bowl, take 2 cups of water and add 1 cup of Organic besan
- Mix properly. You can use a whisker here
Step 2 - Make the tempering
- Heat the oil in a kadhai
- Once hot, add the mustard seeds and let them crackle
- Add asafoetida, green chilies and curry leaves
- Add the Organic Turmeric and garlic
- Add the onions and saute till golden brown
Step 3 - Mixing the Pithla
- Now add the besan paste in the onion tempering and stir continuously. You can add one cup of water here to thin down the pithla.
- Add the cumin-coconut powder and salt. Stir well
- You will see that the Pithla starts to bubble when it is boiling. You can cover your lid
- Cook the besan paste for 4-5 minutes. Stir after every 2 minutes
- Adjust consistency with water.
- Add the coriander leaves and serve with Bhakri or Indrayani rice
