Recipes using desi ghee for babies
- Dal Chawal
Take 1 small bowl of toor or moong dal and soak it in the water for 10 minutes. Now put double amount of water to this dal, add a pinch of turmeric and hing. Similarly wash and soak the rice as well. Add double or triple the water to the rice depending on your rice. Now pressure cook the both in separate containers for 3 whistles and then on low heat for 10 minutes. Once the cooker cools down, remove the dal and whisk it a little to blend it. Add some salt and water and boil it. You must add a teaspoon of ghee on rice and dal before serving. Add a few drops of lemon if you baby likes it. (My mother adds a small piece of jaggery to this dal. Although it is completely optional)
- Moongdal Khichadi
Take a small bowl of rice and moong dal. Wash and soak it for about 10 minutes. Add a pinch of haldi and hing to this along with some salt. Add a spoonful of desi ghee to it. Pressure cook the khichdi for 3 whistles and then on low heat for 10 minutes. For really young babies, just add a bowl of water to the khichadi and stirl it and bring to another boil. It will make the khichadi soft. You can give a tadka to the khichadi. JUst take a spoon of ghee, add some jeera, curry leaves and hing to it and put it on the khichadi.
- Sooji kheer
Take half bowl of sooji (take small bowl for less portions). Dry roast it in a pan for about 10 minutes. Don’t roast for too long. Just until it gets that pink colour. Add a teaspoon of ghee to the sooji and roast for 5 minutes and add 3 bowls of milk to the sooji. Keep on stirring continuously. Once the milk boils and the sooji is cooked properly, add 2 to 3 teaspoons of sugar as per your liking. You can some dry fruit powder for that extra dose of nutrition.
